Do you think a seaside holiday on the Costa del Sol is only worth taking during the summer months? Let us prove you wrong. If you have the opportunity, pack your suitcase with light clothing and head to southern Spain now—you'll be pleasantly surprised. Daytime temperatures are already climbing above 20°C, the skies are cloudless, and it's not even March yet.
Spain's southern coastline is famous for enjoying more than 320 days of sunshine each year. The Costa del Sol lies between the lesser-known coastal regions of Costa de la Luz and Costa Tropical. Once home to a collection of small fishing villages, the area has grown into one of the world's leading tourist destinations.
Hot Summers
Of course, you can't go wrong if you prefer to soak up the sun and enjoy the sea during the summer holidays, when children are out of school. The main tourist season, when beaches and restaurants are bustling with visitors from around the world, typically runs from June until around the middle of September. During this period, temperatures are high—last year daytime highs exceeded 40°C, while swimming pools reached temperatures of over 30°C. All restaurants and bars are open, water parks are in full operation, and every tourist service is available.
Could the Off-Season Be Even Better?
If you'd rather avoid crowded promenades, easily reserve a padel court, enjoy a peaceful run along the beach without weaving through crowds, or play a round of golf whenever you feel like it, consider visiting in March or April instead. Pack a light sweater or hoodie for the cooler evenings, but otherwise, lightweight clothing will be all you need. And don't forget your swimsuit—locals are already swimming in the sea as early as February.
Spring, as well as October and November, is also the perfect time to explore Andalusia's many remarkable attractions, which we'll introduce in more detail another time. We look forward to welcoming you to southern Spain. Come and enjoy delicious tapas and outstanding local wines—you can fly here from the Czech Republic or Slovakia in just three hours. And yes, airlines operate flights to Málaga throughout the year.
