WHY MOVE TO MIJAS COSTA?
Mijas Costa is one of the most popular destinations in Spain, so come if you are looking for a lively place and all the comforts of home while bathing in the famous sunlight.
The first district along the Costa Mijas, which covers 12 beaches on 12km, is the popular tourist town of Calahonda. Then you move east, to Calypso, Riviera del Sol, Miraflores and Torrenueva, and then to La Cala de Mijas – another destination full of lively bars and restaurants. The coastline embraces the rocky inland urbanisations (residential zones) of Los Claveles, El Chaparral, Los Farolas, El Faro, Calaburras, La Costa and La Ponderosa.
Marbella is just a 15-minute drive away, and the inland puebla Mijas, Coín and Alhaurín el Grande are also nearby. Parque Acuatico Mijas (Mijas Water Park) is great for children, with water slides, wave pools and islets. Due to the high number of tourists and foreign inhabitants, there is a wide selection of cuisines from all over the world. The El Zoco shopping centre in Calahonda and the markets in Cala de Mijas are great for shoppers. The whole area is dotted with golf courses and horseback riding, tennis, bowling, water sports and lots of excursions are availble as well. The seaside promenade, part of Senda Litoral de Malaga (Malaga’s coastal path), connects all the beaches for pedestrians.
ESTATE
There are plenty of brand-new apartments available in the serviced buildings, or if you want more privacy, you can have an apartment in a gated community. Most of the region is built up with modern apartment buildings, although terraced houses and villas are also for sale in Calahonda.
TRANSPORT
The A-7 coastal driveway connects the various Districts of Mijas Costa. A car is recommended, but it's not a must if you want to live near the beach and love to walk around. Transfers and taxis or car rentals are available throughout the year. Public transport in Mijas is limited to bus services, but busy takes you to Malaga, Marbella and Fuengirola. Ap-7 is a charged driveway.
EMPLOYMENT
This is a region that revolves around tourism. Services are therefore rather seasonal, but long-term employment is available.
PUBLIC HEALTH
There are hospitals in Marbella and Fuengirola; Calahonda and Cala de Mijas have many doctors and specialists, as well as pharmacies.
EDUCATION
Most schools are along A-7 or AP-7 roads, so residents of inland urbanizations are close to them. In addition to public schools, there are plenty of private and international schools located in Marbella and Fuengirola.
COST OF LIVING
The eastern part of the Costa del Sol is generally cheaper when it comes to living.
Most restaurants offer an affordable 3-course daily menu. Flights here are operated by cheap airlines at affordable prices. Public transport is also cheaper than in other European countries. It is very easy to spend less here than in most parts of Europe.
