Manilva, a hidden gem just along the coast from charming Marbella, offers an authentic piece of Andalusian life. Just 3 kilometers inland from several modern summer resorts, it is definitely a Spanish city. The sweet Muscatel wines made from the grapes of the surrounding vineyards are a perfect complement to the daily catch from the port of neighbouring Puerto de la Duquesa.
Park your car and get lost in the winding, white streets of the city. Stop by and say "HOLA" to friendly locals who will greet you as you walk past the church before heading up to enjoy the amazing views of Casares village and across the coast to Marbella and Estepona. Explore a little deeper into the complex system of ancient country trails to the sulfur springs of Baños de la Hedionda, where Julius Caesar was said to have once bathed in the healing waters. POPULATION
Its location on the western borders of the Costa del Sol means that very few visitors will get to Manila. They are missing out on the small, friendly and especially Spanish community that lives here.
ESTATE
Manilva is a great alternative to the more expensive places nearby, such as Marbella and Sotogrande, and offers charming townhouses and apartments along with villas and Fink (farms) to explore the surrounding countryside.
PUBLIC FACILITIES
The town is well known for its fabulous tapas and sweet wines served in the bars around the square. Golf lovers will be in paradise, there are 12 courses within a 10-kilometre radius, and there are other sports and leisure facilities in town. Shops include a supermarket, a bakery and a wine shop.
TRANSPORT
Gibraltar Airport is a 45-minute drive away, Malaga just over 60 minutes away, but offers flights to a larger number of destinations. In the recent years, the coastline development has brought better access, including a new Sabinillas underpass and access to the AP-7 road.
EMPLOYMENT
Manilva has some of the lowest unemployment rates in the Malaga region, with tourism providing most of the work. The proximity of Gibraltar and Marbella also means access to a wider range of opportunities.
PUBLIC HEALTH
The village has its own public health clinic and pharmacy, more doctors are available in coastal urbanizations. If you need a hospital, the closest one is in Estepona is a 20-minute drive.
EDUCATION
There are Spanish state schools for all ages in the village. If you are interested in British national education programs, one of Spain’s top rated international schools is located in nearby Sotogrande.
