WHY MOVE TO BENAHAVÍS?
This traditional Andalusian mountain village has all the benefits you would expect. Beautiful scenery, golf and gourmet food are at your fingertips.
Benahavís overlooks the coast between Marbella and Estepona. On a clear day you can even see the African coast. Originally founded by Arab settlers in the 11th century, its location provided practical use as a lookout tower against frequent raids by pirates.
Today, the city has retained most of its rural charm, adding golf courses, hotels and excellent restaurants to draw crowds from more luxurious coastal towns. The charm of the old town and the natural beauty of the surrounding area have also proven to be an inspiration for the city's artistic community.
Benahavís is a paradise for nature lovers who have the opportunity to hike between the mountain peaks and around the banks of rivers lined with chestnut and olive trees. It is a rough and dramatic area where pure mountain air mixes with the spark of the always sunny ocean below.
POPULATION
In this small community of 8,884 people, a quarter of whom come from the UK, you will be warmly welcomed. The expansion of golf and luxury accommodation has made it particularly appealing for the rich, who mingle with locals and the art crowd.
ESTATE
Benahavís has expanded considerably in recent years, becoming one of the most sought-after places in the region. Prices are also higher, with properties that include stylish apartments, traditional village houses and luxury villas overlooking mountains and the sea.
EDUCATION
You won't find too many mountain villages with such an easy access to bilingual schools in Spain. Benahavís, however, is one of them, with Atalaya college just a few kilometers down the road and another international school in nearby Estepona.
PUBLIC FACILITIES
There's fierce competition on the Costa del Sol, but golf lovers can enjoy some of the best courses in the region. The food combines local delicacies with fresh fish and meat. There is also a new supermarket in town.
PUBLIC HEALTH
In addition to the local public health center and pharmacy, there is a hospital in nearby Marbella and a much larger medical center in San Pedro, where you are in a quarter of an hour.
EMPLOYMENT
As Benahavís is a small town, it is unlikely that there will be much work, but the proximity of the thriving Marbella offers plenty of job and business opportunities.
TRANSPORT
The mountain location means there is less frequent bus service, but it is a friendly town and locals often go to the airport. There is also a dedicated taxi service for the area to take you where you need to go.
COST OF LIVING
Benahavís gives you a chance to live nicely within reach of the Costa del Sol, but at affordable prices.
